FRIDAY 18th MAY:
FUNDRAISING CONCERT for MALAWI - at CARMEL COLLEGE, DARLINGTON, in association with the CARMEL COLLEGE PTA. Matilda Wood, a sixth former has been selected to work and teach in an orphanage in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world for twelve months from August. In order to take up the position she needs to raise around £5000. She’s a singer songwriter and will be performing herself, along with Vast Majority (blues) Anthony Davison (classical) and True Romance (rock and pop covers). Her charity CD “Songs for Malawi” will be available on the night. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5. The PTA will be running a licensed bar including White Boar real ale supplied by The Village Brewer. Tickets and CD are also available at Guru Boutique in Blackwell Lane, Darlington
SATURDAY 19th MAY:
GARDEN PARTY from 2pm at NORTON COURT CARE HOME, Norton Road, STOCKTON ON TEES to benefit the residents – as well as the usual cake stall, tombola, raffle and bouncy castle, there will be live entertainment supplied by Noel Brooks, Azza Lonsdale ‘n’ Crew Street Dancers, and Norton Fire Brigade Blue Watch will be there - everyone’s welcome!
SUNDAY 20th MAY:
CHARITY DAY at THE GEORGE & DRAGON in YARM HIGH STREET from 2pm - with live music, raffles, auctions, pie and peas in memory of Andrea Walker, and in aid of MACMILLAN CANCER CARE, who fund the Macmillan Nurses. Entry is £5, and all proceeds go to this very worthy cause.
SUNDAY 27th MAY:
MATALAN in DARLINGTON have organized a FAMILY FUN DAY in support of “HELP FOR HEROES” to help defray the costs of the Rehabilitation Centre in Catterick. It’s from 12 noon until 5pm at DARLINGTON RUGBY CLUB, Blackwell Meadows, Grange Road, Darlington DL1 5NR - there’ll be Dave John B’s Knockout Roadshow, stalls, games, kiddies rides, a Barbecue and refreshments. £1 per person entry – tickets available from Matalan or on the door on the day!
SATURDAY 2nd JUNE:
“CLASSIC CLAPTON” the world’s Number 1 Eric Clapton tribute band are in concert at HELMSLEY ARTS CENTRE, The Old Meeting House, Helmsley near Thirsk, North Yorkshire – doors open at 7pm, band on stage at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £13, available from the Box Office 01439 771700 – also online at www.helmsleyarts.co.uk They’ll be performing all of Eric Clapton’s classic songs including Wonderful Tonight, Tears in Heaven, Crossroads, I shot the sheriff, Lay down Sally, and of course Layla - there’ll even be an “unplugged” segment.
CEILIDH to benefit the NATIONAL OSTEOPOROSIS SOCIETY at THE GOLDEN EAGLE, Trenchard Avenue, THORNABY from 7.30pm - tickets are £7, which includes a pie and pea supper (vegetarian option available). SUNDAY 3rd JUNE:
QUEEN’S DIAMOND JUBILEE PICNIC IN THE PARK at ROPNER PARK, between Oxbridge and Hartburn, Stockton between 12 noon and 4pm… bring your family and your food for lots of fun – it’s organized by Friends of Ropner Park, and Families Forward. Attractions include Disco through the decades, Marvin the Magician, Face Painting, children’s games, cakes, Asian Street Food, Zumba and Hula Exercise, plus competitions for best fancy dress, and best dressed picnic spot! Everyone is welcome, and of course entry to the park is absolutely free!
WEDNESDAY 6th JUNE:
FUNDRAISING NIGHT in aid of ST AGNES' CHURCH, EASTERSIDE, MIDDLESBROUGH to aid their roof repair fund after thieves caused thousands of pounds worth of damage recently. Listeners Jimmy Clements and David Long have organised this night at the BEECHWOOD AND EASTERSIDE & DISTRICT SOCIAL CLUB (BEADS) Concert room - doors open from 6.30pm - there is a huge raffle including food hamper, cash voucher, spirits, chocolates, and lots more items. Entertainment from FIDDLING FANTASTIC and ALAN HUNTER. Admission is 50p - raffle tickets 10p each or £1 for a book. Tickets available from the club or church and all are welcome
SATURDAY 9th and SUNDAY 10th JUNE:
THE ANNUAL NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS RAILWAY 60’s WEEKEND returns! There will be entertainment at the various stations along the line.
Shadows Music and Shazam with popular singer Ian Geast will be performing at Levisham Station from noon until 4pm each day. Refreshments will be available and a real ale beer tent. Admission is free to NYMR ticket holders.
Please note there is very limited car parking at Levisham so its best to come on the train.
For the weekend there will be extra steam train services running between Whitby and Pickering.
This is an excellent event for anyone planning to visit the Pickering 60s Festival on the Saturday evening.
SATURDAY 9th JUNE:
PICKERING 60’s FESTIVAL takes place at locations around the town throughout the day with the main event taking place on the main stage in the Market Place in the evening.
Appearing this year are Little Miss 60s, The Legends of the 60s and The Fourmost.
If you like to dress in 60s style then this is the place to be. Everyone’s welcome and it is FREE !
FRIDAY 15th to SUNDAY 17th JUNE:
WHITBY’S 60’s MUSIC FESTIVAL returns, at the PAVILION with a combination of original 60’s icons each evening, and afternoon tribute acts. On Sunday 15th Rock & Roll band Jive Express will be performing.
